Biography

Dr. Vernon is one of the founding partners of Vernon & Waldrep OB-Gyn Associates (1983). She is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society DCMS), the Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly, the American Medical Association, and the American Women’s Medical Association.

In the recent past, Dr. Vernon has been President of Medical Staff at Medical City Dallas Hospital (2001), Chairperson of the Privilege & Credentials Committee (2002), Chairperson of the OB-Gyn Section Committee and has served on the Health and Rehab Committee as well as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She currently serves on the Tissue and Transfusion Committee, Infection Control Committee and the Executive Committee for the Ambulatory Surgery Center. She is also an affiliate of Advanced Research Associates and an Investigator for Practice Research Associates. In D Magazine, Dr. Vernon was voted by her peers as “one of the best doctors in Dallas” in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

She has served on the board of and executive boards of DCMS, OB-Gyn Affiliates of North Texas, the Medical Advisory Board of Planned Parenthood, and is on the board of the Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly. Dr. Vernon is the gyn representative on the Cardiovascular Physician Advisory Council for HCA’s North Texas Division. She is a delegate of the Dallas County Medical Society (1989-present), delegate of the DCMS Investment Review Committee (1998-present) and Chairman of the DCMS Membership Services Committee (2005-present). Dr. Vernon has been a delegate to the Texas Medical Association for more than fifteen years and serves on the Advisory Committee for the TMAIT.

She is now serving as chairperson of the International Mission Committee through her church, Preston Hollow Presbyterian.

• Two Children:
  • Taylor (Born 1983) - Attending Law School in Los Angeles.
  • Lauren (Born 1984) - Graduated from Greenhill School, currently attending Auburn University in Alabama.
• She enjoys tennis, snow skiing, scuba diving, horseback riding, travel and gardening. Her favorite sporting/travel event was the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. She describes the experience as truly the most fabulous event her family has ever attended. It was an all day, every day celebration of athleticism, of national and international spirit & pride, and of “fun.” The Olympic spirit was contagious to everyone and she would love to have the experience again.
• Active member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. Dr. Vernon serves as the chairperson for the International Mission Committee and on the Community Outreach Committee.
• Dr. Vernon often tells patients that she is "home grown." She was born and raised in Dallas, attending Lake Highlands Elementary, Junior High and High School followed by college at the University of Texas at Austin and medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
• When Dr. Vernon was a medical student, she felt there was a paucity of female physicians available for women’s healthcare. It seemed to her that a woman physician, in many instances such as childbirth, PMS, and menopause, may be able to relate better to another woman’s symptoms and feelings. OB-Gyn has been an extremely rewarding and diverse specialty providing her with both a surgical and medical practice and spanning the care of women from teenage to senior years.
• Drs. Vernon and Waldrep came to Medical City Dallas in August 1983 as the only female OB-Gyns at the facility. The hospital opened in 1974 and in 1983 there were only a “handful” of women physicians on campus. Dr. Vernon felt then, just as she does now, very fortunate to be a part of a forward thinking healthcare institution.
• When asked about one of her most significant and inspiring events, she relates the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Malawi, Africa on a church mission trip in June 2000. The experience allowed her to establish an ongoing relationship with the physicians practicing in Malawi. She remains involved in international outreach programs, and she hopes to be able to return to Malawi with a medical mission team sometime in the near future.

Biography

Dr. Waldrep is one of the founding partners of Vernon & Waldrep OB-Gyn Associates (1983). She is a member of several professional societies including Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly, American Medical Association, American Women's Medical Association, and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She was President of the Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly in 2003. She has developed articles for the Dallas Morning News, Vitality Magazine, D Magazine's Dallas Medical Guide 2000 and the Tri Delta TriDent, and she herself has been the subject of articles in Cosmopolitan, Dallas Women, Dallas Morning News, and Clarity Magazine. Dr. Waldrep is currently specializing in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation and Therapy and is a Lead Investigator for Practice Research Associates which enrolls patients in clinical trials. She is very proactive in helping to advance medicine and women's health.

Dr. Waldrep has also served as president of Medical Staff at Medical City Dallas Hospital (1993), President of Ambulatory Surgery Center, Chairman of Department of Surgery, Chairman of Department of OB-Gyn, Chairman of Tissue and Transfusion Committee, and Chairman of Privileges & Credentials Committee. She has served on the boards of the International Women's Forum Dallas, The Science Place and is currently serving on the Parkland Foundation Board and the Regional Board for Young Life. She is an active member of Fellowship Bible Church Dallas. In D Magazine, Dr. Waldrep was voted "one of the best doctors in Dallas" by her peers in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. In February 2005, Dr. Waldrep received the "Profile in Leadership Award" at SMU's 40th Annual Women's Symposium recognizing her significant contribution to women in the Dallas community.

• Married to David C. Waldrep - Attorney and subsequent MBA at SMU. Business entrepreneur.
• Three Children:
  • Kristen (Dow) (Born 1978) - Graduate of University of Southern California with a degree in Architecture. Married and has a baby girl.
  • Kevin (Born 1983) - Graduate of Duke University 2005 with a degree in Economics.

  • Kyle (Born 1993) - Student at Episcopal School of Dallas
• Interests - Enjoys cooking, jogging, women's Bible study, and family activities.
• Church Affiliation – Active member at Fellowship Bible Church Dallas.
• Volunteers with Young Life for Highland Park and Private Schools and serves lunch at the cafeteria of Episcopal School of Dallas.
• Dr. Waldrep grew up in Tyler, Texas graduating from Robert E. Lee High School.
• Loves contemporary art and contemporary glass works.
• Inspired to go into medicine by reading the biography of Albert Schweitzer and Dr. Waldrep is passionate about helping and caring for others. She became very interested in women's healthcare soon after marrying at a young age when she had some less than desirable experiences with gynecologists. This led to her decision that there should be more alternatives available for women. Because of her passion, she loves to laugh with the patients and sometimes cry with them. She enjoys sharing many of life's joys and sometimes sorrows with her patients.
• Dr. Waldrep has a very supportive family. She loves to travel any place with her family and loves spending time with them.

Biography

Dr. Elmquist joined Vernon & Waldrep OB-Gyn Associates in 1993 after completing her training at Parkland Hospital. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Texas Medical Association, Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly, Dallas County Medical Society, Vanderbilt Alumni Association, the Alumni Board of Southwestern Medical School, and the U.T. Southwestern Medical School Alumni Association Board of Trustees.

Dr. Elmquist served as OB-Gyn Section Chief at Medical City Dallas Hospital in 1999 and 2003. She was Department Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2000. She has served on the OB-Gyn Performance Improvement Committee, Health and Rehabilitation Committee, and Tissue and Transfusion Committee. Dr. Elmquist has been the Chairman of the Tissue and Transfusion Committee for the past four years. She is President-elect of the Medical City Dallas Hospital Medical Staff in 2008 and will be the President of the Medical Staff in 2009.

• Dr. Elmquist grew up in Iowa and was inspired to become a physician by her father and grandfather, both physicians. At the recent memorial service for her father, Dr. Elmquist was touched by the comments and remarks made by a multitude of patients that her dad has helped. These statements were not only a source of pride for Dr. Elmquist, but also a reaffirmation of her career choice. She still love the practice of obstetrics and views each delivery as a miracle.
• When she is not at the hospital, Dr. Elmquist enjoys spending time with her family and volunteers often at their schools.

Biography

Dr. Sohn is our newest addition to the practice. Her specialty is adolescent care, and she is very enthusiastic about women's health and wellness. She is a member of the Texas Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Sohn grew up in Dallas and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Emory University in Atlanta. She returned to Dallas to complete her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as well as her residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital. At Medical City Dallas Hospital, she has served on the OB/Gyn Performance Improvement Committee, the Ethics Committee, and the Infection Control Committee.
